The American Civil War in the United States took place beginning from 1861 and ending in 1865. It was a war that was fought between the  Union loyalists (northern United States) and the Confederacy (southern United States). The loyalists of the Union supported the Constitution,  whereas the secessionists of the Confederacy wanted to uphold slavery.

In April 1861, the Confederacy forces attacked Fort Sumter in South Carolina, igniting the beginnings of a civil war that would last for 4 years and ended with 620,000 to 750,000 casualties on both sides. The civil war ended in April 9, 1865 when General Robert E. Lee of the Confederacy surrendered to General Ulysses S. Grant of the Union at the Battle of  Appomattox Court House. The end of the war led to the resulting collapse of the Confederacy; ending slavery and freeing over 4 million black slaves.

In this collection, you will learn about the most influential American civil war figures - William T. Sherman, a top general of the Union Army during the war known for his remarkable sense of military strategy and his use of "scorched earth" policies against the Confederate States; Ulysses S. Grant, Union Army commanding  war general responsible for defeating the Confederacy to end the civil war, later becoming the 18th President of the United States; Robert E. Lee, commander of the Confederate Army, was known for his abilities as an intelligent tactical battlefield commander, overcoming numerous battles against the Union Army that were  not in his odds to win.

Also included in this collection are over 900+ American civil war historical photographic images with description. Take a look at the sample pages taken from just some of these books in the collection.
