Stamps are devices that help to identify the deposition of a fee for postal services. The first postage stamp issued in the world was by Great Britain in 1840. Later in 1847, the government of the United States also issued its first postal stamps. Gradually, postal stamps grew into a method for endorsing and identifying distinguished persons, events, institutions, and organizations. The library and librarians are scarcely adopted as subjects for stamps, especially in the US. However, when they are depicted on the stamps, it rarely represents the library or those associated with it in society.

The study of the history of postal services and postage stamps is called Philately. We can also refer to it as the gathering, identifying, and other research activities on stamps and a lot of philatelic products. Philately goes beyond the collection of stamps or the study of postage. Philately is basics the act of creating a wide variety of books, journals, and periodicals, than any other type. It is a kind of literature that encompasses numerous fascinating and valuable information that relates to stamp collecting and the history of postal services. You can access different kinds of philatelic literature, auction catalog, books, and periodicals, which are all useful in building an understanding of your library collection. Philatelic literature has broadened the scope

The inception of philatelic literature coincides with the introduction of stamp collection. The original form of literature that contained the list of stamps with prices was published in the 1850s. The first compilation of a postal stamp catalog was done in 1861 by Alfred Potiquet. As the interests in the collecting of stamps increased and became a widespread activity, the marked the creation of special libraries and the introduction of diverse philatelic societies.

In this collection, we will explore various stamp catalogues and albums from all over the world, including stamps from Great Britain, Canada, United States, Germany, Siam, and Australia. Learn about the history behind the use of stamps and how philately became a popular hobby even to this day. Philately magazine and publications in this collection includes "Stamp-Collector", "The American Philatelist", "The London Philatelist", and "The Philatelic Record".
