The banjo, a member of the guitar family, is a musical string instrument that consists of 4, 5, or 6 strings. It has a long narrow neck with a hollow circular body that is covered in front by a parchment tightly stretched over a frame or cavity. The banjo is played with the fingers or a plectrum by plucking or strumming. It is mainly used in folk and country music, with occasional appearances in rock music.

The invention of the banjo can be traced all the way back to the 17th century in the Caribbean, with its first appearances in North America by the  beginning of the 18th century. At the turn of the 19th century, the banjo became more readily available commercially.

The word "banjo", may have been derived from the Kimbundu word "mbanza", which is an African string instrument similar to the Portuguese banza. Other possibilities on where the word may have  originated from includes: The Afro-Caribbean folk dance known as "banya"; as a dialectal pronunciation of the Portuguese word "bandore"; or from the Spanish word "bandurria".

This collection consists of 54 rare vintage books on a single DVD. All of the books are published between the 1850s and early 1900s. Included are magazines and journals that discusses the banjo and related instruments. Topics from this collection will include lessons and methods on banjo playing, with sheet music and illustrations to help guide you.
